Utilize clinical judgement and critical thinking in the development, implementation and evaluation of an individualized plan of nursing care for patients.Demonstrate safe, competent, and ethical patient-centered care.Properly utilize the clinical judgement model and steps of the nursing process to determine actual and potential healthcare needs, and prioritize those needs according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.While enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program (PNP), the student will achieve the following competencies: Students also learn to manage patient care through appropriate delegation and supervision of nursing care provided by unlicensed assistive health-care personnel. Students learn to administer medications and perform sterile and non-sterile procedures and assist patients with their personal hygiene, mobility, oxygen, nutritional, and elimination needs. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to work as Licensed Practical Nurses who assess patients’ healthcare status and responses to care provided. Inability to comply with all health requirements of clinical partners may prevent the student from completing their clinical experience and subsequently their training program. Clinical experience is required for completion of the program. * In compliance with the requirements of our clinical partners, students accepted into the PNP will be required to complete drug testing and meet current vaccine requirements to qualify for participation in clinical experiences at healthcare facilities. Ability to work in an emotionally charged and/or stressful environment. Ability to maintain emotional stability during periods of high stress.Stand or walk for long periods (>12 hours).Up to date immunizations including: Hepatitis B, T-dap, MMR, Varicella, Seasonal Influenza, COVID-19*.A complete physical examination by a healthcare provider.Please verify admission and course completion requirements if you wish to articulate to the WSU PN to RN Program or a different university or college. However, applicants will receive an extra application point for each course completed prior to application. HTHS 2230 Introductory Pathophysiology and Nutrition LS 1020 Foundations in Nutrition are not required for admission.
